Naples is famous all over the World for its fabulous coffee, so we knew we absolutely had to find the perfect coffee for customers at Yammo!

 

True to our ethical approach, we wanted to bring you a coffee that didn’t leave a bitter taste in your mouth.

 

The provenance of everything we serve is just as important as its taste. However, as we innocently set out on our mission to find a truly authentic Italian coffee we were in for a few surprises.

 

Surprise no.1

Due to a trading embargo way back in time, Italy started to import the Robusta bean and it is still used in espresso bars throughout Italy today.

 

Coffee from the Robusta bean is dark and strong, which makes a great espresso but it is also more bitter than the Arabica bean, (considered by coffee connoseurs as the superior of the two varieties).

 

Surprise no.2

The Robusta bean is also traded as a commodity on stock markets around the world, in most cases with little concern for how it is produced.

 

This presented us with another dilemma. Finding an Italian-style coffee that was ethically sourced led to a great deal of head scratching.

 

Our saviours

Fortunately our friends at Clifton Coffee came to the rescue with a fantastic, single-origin, 100% Arabica bean from El Salvador.

 

Cleverly roasted following the same method the Italians use for beans supplied to their coffee bars, the results are lip-smackingly amazing – a delicious coffee with the dark, smooth character and lovely ‘crema’ of real Italian coffee.

 

Unlike most Italian coffee, however, it doesn't present that underlying bitterness. This means you get to enjoy an Italian-style coffee without having to drink it Italian-style (that is, with several sugars!).
